IMS CONSUMER CLUB

Any service or product lives its life only and only, if there is great satisfaction to the consumers availing the service or consuming the product. Today's over commercialized attitude of service providers and product manufacturers has made consumer baffled. He is on the cross-roads of deciding whether to go for a particular product or not because since more often than not he gets cheated.

Keeping this in view, IMS law College has established the IMS Consumer Club which is periodically organizes Consumer Awareness Programs for the general public in rural areas, school students in different schools, students of all streams in the college vicinity and makes them aware about the rights of the consumer.

In a developing country like India where the incidence of poverty and unemployment is very high and the level of literacy is very low, the people face a volume of problems, particularly in the context of consumer related issues. "World Consumer Rights Day" on March 20, 2015, with an objective to spread the Consumerism, with great fervour and enthusiasm. It was a power-packed event containing series of activities to mark the day. The function was graced by many dignitaries from consumers forum, dignitaries who were present on the occasion were Mr. Alok Aggrawal,Vice President Consumer Forum and Advisor, Captain Sagar Das Gupta, Secretary Consumer Forum, Col. Thakur, Vice President Consumer Forum, Mr. Khan, Member Consumer Forum, and Mrs. Kuchachal Executive Member Consumer Forum who voiced for bringing an improvement in the ingredients of human consumption products whether be it fast food or junk food since people cannot avoid fast food items so easily, so the way out is to make the same food, life-sustaining not tummy-terminating. IMS CONSUMER CLUB conducted awareness programme at Sr. Secondary School, Chilla Village, Mayur Vihar, Phase 1 Delhi on May 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Members were Divya Gupta, Jyoti Tomer, Anneysha Kundu.


A Consumer Awareness Campaign was carried out by the members of IMS Consumer Club (IMS Law College, Noida) on 23 April 2013 in Gurgaon at Chiranjiv Bharti School, Sushant Lok, C block.

Mr. Sunil Prakash, President Consumers Forum was also present there for the encouragement of students. See more. Dr. Niti Sinha Coordinated the programme The members of club made school students as well as teachers aware about Consumer Protection Act 1986, their rights as a Consumer and how they can take help.

On the day of this campaign students of 9th to 12th standard of the Chiranjiv Bharti School were taught about the consumer's right. To give better information to the students several presentations were explained by students of IMS law college. At the end the questions raised by teachers and senior students were also answered by members.

During this awareness campaign it was told that how one should be very careful while purchasing any product. Customer should always ask for the receipt and should sign only after reading all the rules and regulations. Hide this content.

On the 26th of February, 2014 few students and teachers of IMS Law College, Noida visited Bhelopur village located in Gautam Budh Nagar District, Uttar Pradesh. The intention of the visit was to enlighten the school children and their esteemed teachers with the helpful contents of Consumer & Legal Awareness conducted as a programme.


A group of 4 students (Renu Beniwal, Prateek Sharma, Mukul Goel, Ankit Dixit) of B.A,LL.B, 2nd semester who are the members of IMS Consumer Club undertook a visit to Pine Crest School in Gurgaon on 18 April, 2013 for the Consumer Awareness Programme. The event was organised with a noble objective of spreading consumer awareness among the students about their rights and duties, ways of consumer protection, consumer forums need and process of filing complaint, existing laws on Consumer Protection and much more. IMS Law College organized a colloquium on "Consumer Justice Now" on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day at Seminar Hall on March 15, 2013. The programme started with ceremonial lighting of the lamp by our Hon'ble Guest Mr. S.C Sharma (Director, Consumer Coordination Council, Noida). The members of IMS CONSUMER CLUB conducted the consumer awareness programme at NATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL on 28 January, 2013. The members were accompanied by Lt.GEN.G.R.S THAKUR (GENERAL SECRETARY OF CONSUMER FORUM) and faculty members.

A National Seminar on CONSUMER MEDITION held on 24th March, 2012 at Constitutional Club of India. This seminar was sponsered by Department of Consumer Affairs Government of India and was organised by Consumer Coordination Council (CCC). The Vice President of Consumers Club Mr. Alok Agrawal, Chairman Adv. Amrit Lal Saha and Director S.C. Sharma was also present in this seminar.

IMS Consumer Club has organised a Debate competition which was held on 2nd September, 2012 on very important topic i.e "Is Recession changing the consumers behaviour". The students of all the semester give their best to win this competition. And winners were awarded with trophy and all the participants have been given the participation certificate.1st, 2nd, 3rd position was secured by Priyam Shukla, Anmol Singh and Vaibhav Tiwari respectively.

The programme was coordinated by Mr Govind Prasad Goyal, Assistant Professor under the banner of consumer's coordination council Noida, Consumer Forum New Delhi and IMS consumer club a unit of IMS law college Noida conducted consumer awareness program in the school Balika Vidya Mandir at Noida Sector 31 by the team of four members, Priyanka Tiwari, Rama Singh, Himani Lakhera and Arjun Mehta.

A Half Day Seminar was organized on "Role of Media and Consumers" on 27th February, 2012 by IMS Consumer Club in collaboration with Consumer's Forum and Consumer Coordination Council, at IMS Campus, Noida. Three guest speakers presented their opinion about the topic. Mr Ravi Srinivasan Associate Editor and Bureau Chief of the Hindu Business Line discussed the various angles of the topic in detail. He pointed out that media has some limitations, does not have much space to cover all the problems or usages, difficult to target the readers and business enterprise and money. Members of the IMS Consumer's Club (Gauri Gupta and Sumaiya Nausheen B.A.,LL.B students) presented their opinion on the topic "Impact of Media on the Rural Consumers" that now a days rural consumers are more aware for their rights than the past scenario when rural consumers do not have rights due to illiteracy and they were ignorant of the products they used to are buy. Dr Jayshree Gupta, Retd. IAS and former CMD, IDPL pointed out that there are merits and demerits of media related to consumer products and appealed to consumer for awareness of their rights. Dr Sheetal Kapoor, Associate Professor Kamla Nehru College, University of Delhi and convenor of Consumer's Club, Delhi pointed out that that there are plethora of legislations for protecting the rights of consumer's but the problem lies of implementation and suggested that there should be Ombudsman in the field of consumer to check the malpractices adopted by the manufacturer while commercialize their products and selling spurious drugs in the markets for earning their money. Dr Suni Prakash President Consumer Forum, Delhi discussed in the seminar that Consumer's Court should have suo motu power to be entertained complaints and ombudsman. Col. On 6th October, 2012 there was a NORTHEN REGIONAL CONSUMER CONVENTION organized by Consumer coordination council at PARI MAHAL SHIMLA.

The conference had three sessions –

The first session was the INAUGURAL

Second session was on CONSUMER EDUCATION- a need of today in chair of Dr. SUNIL PRAKASH.

Introducing one subject for class 11th and 12th on consumerism.

New stream graduate and post graduate studies to be introduced at college level like graduate program B.A in consumerism.

IMS Consumer Club has organised a Presentation competition on 15th November 2011 on very important and interesting topic i.e Food Adulteration.The term Food Adulteration means "to make food impure by addition" which leads to Adulteration. The students give their best in this competition. And winners were awarded with trophy and all the participants have been given the participation certificate.

Positions were secured by Archana and Suman respectively.

On 30th July 2011, IMS Consumer Club has organised a Debate Competition on the topic "Should there be ban on advertisements aimed at children".The Dignataries were present as – Dr.N.S Azad (Principal of IMS Law College), Sri Alok Agarwal (Advisor IMS Noida and Sr.President Consumer Forum) and Dr Sunil Prakash (President of Consumer Forum). Mrs.Anju Bajaj(Executive member of consumer forum),faculty members.The 10 Students had participated in the competition in which first, second, and third position was secured by Suman Grewal (5th sem), Sumaiya Nausheen (3rd sem), Barinder Kaur (9th sem) respectively it was judged by present dignitaries, as the winners were awarded with trophies and other participants were awarded with participation certificate.The whole event was being co-ordinated by Dr.Niti Sinha (Law faculty and convenor of IMS Consumer Club).

IMS Consumer Club has organised a debate competition which was held on 24th February, 2011 on very important and interesting topic i.e Traditional food v/s Junk food. In this competition students of all the courses took part activly. And winners were awarded with trophy and all the participants have been given the participation certificate 1st, 2nd, 3rd position was secured by Archana, Suman and Sunaina respectively.
